Why is the left losing elections?

Trump's recent election is not an outlier, as across Europe and the US/Canada, left and centre left parties have been making net losses since 2015. In Sweden, the Social Democratic Party looks set to have their worst showing in over a century.

Just what happened to left-wing parties that made them lose?

My thesis boils down to three parts:

1) the generations that remember World War II are dying off (Youngest Holocaust Survivor is 73), and their inoculation against far right politics is ebbing away.

2) In Eastern Europe, the promise of Democracy and Prosperity with the end of the Warsaw Pact in 1991 turned sour, and the institutions necessary for a viable democracy never took root.

3) Left wing parties wedded themselves to a Post-1991 model of globalisation after the USSR's collapse, and as it is beginning to crumble, it left them vulnerable to the backlash.
