Does blaming the “Deep State” for xyz let elected officials off the hook?

After all, it’s not like you can vote for the CIA’s workforce...

Maybe it’s somehow more comforting for many people to blame all myriad of evils (real and imagined) on career civil servants rather than the actual policymakers and decision-makers (read: the President and his top political appointees - many of whom are subject to Senate confirmation (Senators = elected officials), as are the federal court judges whom the elected President nominates but have to be confirmed by the elected members of the United States Senate.

Furthermore, I seem to recall that the US Intelligence Community is subject to direct, permanent oversight by Congressional Committees consisting of - wait for it - elected officials. Some “Deep State!”

Perhaps there’s an abdication of civic responsibility going on here by CT’ers, who would rather blame unelected career civil servants for “evil” rather than the true culprits: the politicians, of any party, whom ordinary people vote for (including conspiracy theorists- assuming they vote at all, of course.)

Just my two cents...
