Worst Campaign Manager Ever -- Holding his Nose

In case you didn't know, Mitch McConnell hired Jesse Benton, the guy who ran Rand Paul's successful Senate campaign in '10, to run his own reelection campaign.

But, uh oh. Mr. Benton had a phone call with a man named Dennis Fusaro, a conservative activist, and that call was recorded. And now it's public. In it, Mr. Benton says:

Quote:

... between you and me, I'm sorta holdin' my nose for two years, because what we're doin' here is going to be a big benefit to Rand Paul in '16, so that's my long vision.

It's bad enough (for McConnell) that he found himself in a position where he thought it was his best option to hire Rand Paul's guy to run his campaign operation, but now that this guy's utter disdain for his employer is public knowledge, Sen McConnell gets the double humiliation of having to get rid of him.

Face. Plant.

Also of interest on that tape, which was the purpose of the call, was Mr. Fusaro telling Mr. Benton that he has proof of some shenanigans regarding a $30,000 check for Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign, and to ask what he thought about that.
