The Shame of ABC News: Trump Questioned About Cruz Eligibility

Today on ABC's This Week, Jonathan Karl had an exchange with Donald Trump about the eligibility of certain persons to be President, due to birthplace. This was not only about Barack Obama, but about Ted Cruz too.

Quote:

"You don't still question whether he was born the United States?" Karl wondered.

"I have no idea," Trump said. "Well, I don't know. Was there a birth certificate? You tell me. You know, some people say that was not his birth certificate. I'm saying, I don't know, nobody knows. And you don't know either, Jonathan. You're a smart guy. You don't either."

...

Karl pointed out that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) had been born in Canada and asked if that made him ineligible to be president of the United States.

"If he was born in Canada, perhaps not," Trump admitted. "But I'm not sure where he was born."

"Oh, he was definitely born in Canada," Karl noted.

"Okay, well, then you'll have to ask him that question, but perhaps not," Trump said. "Look, that will be ironed out. I don't know the circumstances. I heard somebody told me he was born in Canada. That's really his thing."

OK, so what can you say about Trump? He's a joke long past laughter. Every time he opens his mouth on this or any subject, he makes a complete fool out of himself.

My issue is with ABC News.

- Why is ABC News inviting Donald Trump onto a political show? Does he present interesting viewpoints or cogent arguments? Of course not.

- Why is ABC News asking Donald Trump to recapitulate the never-valid conspiracy topic of Obama's birthplace and eligibility? This territory has been covered many times, the story never changes, and the news media participants always belittle themselves by being part of propelling Trump's content-free accusations.

- Why is ABC News asking Donald Trump about the eligibility of Ted Cruz? First of all, they already know he's a natural born citizen, due to his mother's US citizenship. Why on Earth didn't Karl include that plain fact??? Second, Donald Trump is not only no expert on the subject, but has repeatedly shown himself to be aggressively and intentionally ignorant about it.
