Ominious forbidden books

The Necromicon of course doesn't exist but I once heard Lovecrafts star monsters and gods were copied from ancient Mesopotanian texts. The closest thing available that I can find is Anton Laveys Satanic bible but that book is hokey at best and silly at worst. Aleister Crowleys books are just plain nonsense.



Do forbidden hard to find books really exist or are they just figments of writers imaginations?
