I'm kind of superstitious about the counting numbers. If I count a collection of things and I come up with a number that isn't "pleasing" I'll add some or throw some away. Recently I wondered if there was some kind of structure to the sequence I find "pleasing". So I made a list of those up to 1000:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 24, 32, 40, 50, 60, 64, 100, 120, 128, 160, 200, 240, 250, 256, 300, 320, 360, 400, 500, 512, 600, 640, 720, 800, 1000.
Can you find rules to predict which numbers I will find "pleasing" and which are not? If you find a rule that seems to have exceptions feel free to "fudge" the data (it was good enough for Mendel ...). Please be gentle with your replies, it is only meant as a silly diversion.
