A thread for History Books. Temporarily Free History books, even, to start things off.
Recently the following announcement was posted on an other forum:

This major German publisher of scholarly texts has a promotional campaign for the month of August. During this period many of their e-book titles can be accessed and downloaded free of charge. Titles listed as "Licensed Access" can be downloaded - chapter by chapter- in PDF. Almost exclusively German language materials. Primarily history related. Not just books but also Journal articles etc.
My own interest is primarily in texts about the Holocaust but texts about other aspects of modern history are well represented as well. Of course other publishers aren't sitting still and there must be equally reasonably priced (prized?) content on offer elsewhere - in various languages. Which scholarly history book(s) have you read that other members should be reading?
