GOP-controlled House torpedoes its own spending bill.

Remember the Paul Ryan budget that the House of Representatives were wetting themselves over? Well the Transportation and Housing bill in the GOP-controlled H of R just fell over with a THUD. The reason? Mostly it goes back to one of the things that was said to Ryan during the 2012 election. "Where are the cuts going to be?" Turns out that while his optimistic and sketchily detailed budget makes a good sound bite, when it comes to the specifics of ending popular domestic programs, many in the GOP became very reticent to pull the trigger.

So, without ever coming up for a vote, the bill was pulled from the floor, with GOP leaders acknowledging failure. House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Kentucky) said "With this action, the House has declined to proceed on the implementation of the very budget it adopted just three months ago."

And what does this mean, other than the danger of even further and deeper automatic cuts is now greater? Well, it means that Obama and the Democrats were right when they implied that the GOP budget plans were just smoke and mirrors. When the time came to actually name the things that they were going to cut, they pulled the bill rather than admit that they couldn't actually implement it.
