CDC new salt recommendations

The CDC after many years has changed it's recommendation on salt. As I read it, they now admit that they have no idea what is the healthy daily level for people that do not have high blood pressure. People that do have high blood pressure should take more than 3000mg, less than 7000mg, outside that interval negative effects are seen.

For as long as I can remember, there has been the mantra, lower your salt intake. Much like the low fat mantra, which has fallen under serious dispute in the last few years. Taubes pointed out back in June 2012 that the salt recommendation evidence was weak, now the CDC seems to agree. I find it frustrating that so many of the major health recommendations I grew up with are based on such weak data.

Note, I don't agree with Taubes on many things, but he's great at pointing out the flaws in other people's research.

There are plenty of people on this forumn more knowledgeable about this subject than I.

What's your opinion?
